| Customer Reviews: Handy little guide for the casual hiker September 27, 2009 Scott H. Costello (White Bear Lake, MN USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We used this on on our recent vacation to Santa Fe and found it to be very useful. It is physically small enough to fit in a shirt pocket during a hike. We are casual hikers, typically hiking in the mornings and doing other sight-seeing in the afternoons, rarely hiking more than six or seven miles and avoiding trails rated as difficult. This book was just about perfect for our needs, although serious backpackers might scoff. I would definitely look for other titles in the series for future vacations elsewhere.
Exactly what I ordered October 1, 2009 Clifford Dodson 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Delivery was fast and the book was in perfect condition. Easier than driving to a book store and trying to find what you need. I just clicked, purchased, and received. It doesn't get any easier than that.
A very good, but not the best, guide to hikes near Santa Fe September 10, 2008 Robert C. Ross (New Jersey) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Linda Regnier Black and Katie Regnier have written a very nice guide to 25 relatively easy hikes near Santa Fe. The second edition has dropped a number of hikes, and added several others based on comments from users of the first edition. All of the necessary information is presented in a very friendly way for beginning (and even advanced) hikers.
At this writing, Amazon does not allow one to look inside the book, but several representative pages are available on Google Books.
I consider the sixth edition of Day Hikes in the Santa Fe Area by the local chapter of the Sierra Club to be a superior guide. It presents 60 hikes of varying levels of difficulty (but about the same number of easy hikes as this book) and at about the same price.
Both guides do an excellent job of preparing a beginning hiker for the beautiful trails in this region.
